Guest 2613A Battery Charger

In Service: 15-JUL-2001
Sept. 2, 2003 Replacement charger exhibited the same problem as before.

Pulled the charger and returned to Guest under warranty.

When the replacement unit arrrived, I decided that the battery combiner and the charger were getting confused. The combiner cuts in when the voltage exceeds 13.1V, which would occur when the batteriers are being charged.

Decided to disable the battery combiner and make sure the 3 batteries are isolated while charging. This seems to have corrected the problem.

Aug. 29, 2002 Bubbling noise heard while walking by boat. Sticking my head under the console, I saw the charging lights were still on, even after two days of charging. Examination showed the batteries had partially boiled out. Replaced the battery fluid and used a load tester to determine that the batteries were OK. Put the batteries back on the charger, and they seemed OK. The charger recharged them, and the batteries seemed to hold their charge.

The next trip, the problem re-occurred.
