Boat Profile:

The Good Skiff

Can a wooden skiff work offshore?

SLAGIATT (Seemed Like A Good Idea At The Time)

Is there anything Brad doesn't like about the boat, or would do differently, now that he has the benefit of 20/20 hindsight?

Brad told us that he would have altered the bottom stringer design a bit: "I would have chamfered the edges of the bottom stringers rather than using a radius. A chamfer would have packed water between the stringers adding additional lift to the hull."

Parting Thoughts

When the water is really rough, Brad makes maximum use of the Good Skiff's maneuverability and rough water capabilities to deal with adverse conditions. By using body English and the immediate control offered by the tiller arm and throttle controls, he can drive the boat actively around and over the biggest swells and the wildest chop. We liken it to mogul skiing, and Brad really enjoys it .

We asked Brad if he had anything he would like to pass on to our readers, and he wrote:

"Our generation has seen the biggest and best these waters will ever have to offer. I hope that my fellow sportsmen will show grace when it comes to future conservation efforts..."

Amen to That!
