Can We Talk?

Want to hook up your GPS to your VHF radio or Radar, but not sure how? Read on...

Background | Basic (1-to-1) Hookups | Hooking Up 1-to-Many | It Still Doesn't Work!
Hooking up multiple listerners to one talker is really no different than doing a 1-to-1 connection. Just keep in mind a few things:

  • There must only be one talker on a circuit.

  • Connect the talker's Transmit (+) wire and all of the listeners' Receive (+) wires together.

  • Remember that the signal ground (Transmit(-), Receive (-)) wires of all of the devices must be connected (if they have one) .

  • If a listener does not have a Receive (-) wire, it's power ground must be on the same circuit as the power ground of the talker.

  • If the talker does not have a Transmit (-) wire , connect all of the listeners' Receive (-) to the same circuit that the talker's negative (-) battery connection is on.

  • If the talker has a Transmit (-) wire, but none of the listeners has a Receive (-) wire, just leave the talker's Transmit (-) wire floating (disconnected).

  • You can simply crimpt all the wires together, but the easiest thing to do is to use circuit blocks or bus bars as described earlier. By using jumpers to connect multiple connections (see below), it is easy to connect multiple listerners to a single talker. In addition, when one of the devices breaks, you can easily remove its interface cable.
