Ocean Skiff Journal Concepts

OSJ is an on-line magazine dedicated to people who fish blue water from small boats. Whether you agree with this practice or not, there is no denying that there are more than a few of us around! OSJ is a reference site for all things related to running small power boats offshore safely, and fishing them effectively.

What is an Ocean Skiff?
Let's start with a definition: we'll call any boat less than or equal to 24' LOA with an open design (no cabin area) that's used in the ocean an "Ocean Skiff".

What are we focused on?
Safety, mileage, comfort, storage, fishing and fish-fighting tactics, performance, and technology are some of the topics we'll be covering.

There are a lot of sources of information out there - some good, some bad. OSJ strives to collect and sift through this information, and provide our readers with "bottom line" accurate information. Where information isn't available, we'll be doing our own tests and reports.

What's in OSJ?

In every issue:
	Summaries of interesting articles and news related to small boat fishing in blue water
	An ongoing "blog" about our project boat Toy Boat 2, and how things are working (product problems & solutions, long-term performance, new products and ideas used in the boat).
	Ratings and links to other useful sites
	Services such as document templates for trip logs, trip checklists, float plans, etc., and a unique motor sizing application
	Discussion forums
Periodic feature articles:
	Ocean Skiff Showcase - reviews of other people's boats
	Boating information and fishing techniques
	Product tests - Not always scientific, but always relevant
	Lab rat reports - got a product you want tested? If we can, we'll go out and get one and let you know how it works

Where are We Now?
Since we started creating OSJ, we've been keeping a running log of activities. Our original intent was to get something published early, and keep posting things as they occurred... BUT - things happen, and here we are, two years later, with just our first issue.

So, instead of making you wade through two years of accumulated material, we'll just start with current information, and dig up history where it makes sense.

How OSJ Works:

		We publish new materials continuously, but content is bundled into "issues" that include roughly two months of content
		Every issue, we'll ask you to take one or two reader surveys. THESE SURVEYS ARE ENTIRELY OPTIONAL. If you do complete the surveys, you'll be entered into a drawing for a gift certificate from your choice of several on-line stores.
